The defroster is the default mode when there is no vacuum supply. The trouble was, it was broken on the cabin side of the firewall. I pulled the climate control module out of the dash. I disconnected the vacuum harness and  inspected the path the lines go through.  Not much chance of fishing a new line through there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So I decided to take the long way round. Now I have control over where the air blows again.
